Thin prompt and hosts

Host doctor

doctor checks whether the host can mount a hook before turn one. --fix writes the configs it knows. Run it on a copy or your own project, then read the diff.

npx puax-mcp-server doctor\nnpx puax-mcp-server doctor --fix

The package bin is also puax, so npx puax doctor --fix is the same command.

Ten hosts

Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Windsurf, OpenCode, CodeBuddy, Kiro, Trae, Codex CLI, and native AMP inside an orchestrator (no file, always ready).

  • Shape A writes hook config for SessionStart, PreToolUse, and PostToolUse.
  • Trae and Codex CLI mostly write instruction files. Runtime events then depend on the agent calling MCP.
  • Optional puax hookd stays up on a local socket so every event does not cold-start Node. PUAX_HOOKD=0, or a failed probe, falls back to in-process execution.

If a hook breaks, the contract is to degrade, not to kill the host session. If the PreToolUse cheat check throws, the safe side is to block, not to allow.
